City history museum housed in imposing 14th-century castle with graceful circular courtyard and breathtaking views. The museum gives a brief history of Palma from prehistoric times. The second floor is packed with Roman sculpture brought back to Mallorca by Cardinal Despuig in the 18th century.

Dominating the bay of Palma, the golden sandstone cathedral is a jewel of Gothic art, complete with flying butresses and a sublime rose window. There’s room in the vast nave for Renaissance and Baroque touches as well as additions by Gaudí and Barceló. The museum hosts an important collection of silver, manuscripts and Gothic paintings.

Museum of modern and contemporary art overlooking the port. Though Miró and Picasso are the big names, more interesting are the beguiling late-19th and early 20th-century landscapes. The museum’s terrace bar and restaurant serves up fantastic views and Mallorcan cuisine.
